BP Community Enterprise Project

BP Oil NZ Limited is the sponsor for the Community Enterprise Project.

Guidelines BP Community Enterprise Project

The BP Community Enterprise Project allows students to demonstrate their understanding of the objectives of both businesses and not-for-profit enterprises, and how they work together as part of the community to create income, wealth and well-being.

The competition challenges students to apply their ESP learning to benefit a local non profit community organisation. Students, in teams, identify a capital project they can put together as a proposal, and finance for up to the $1, 000 budget provided by BP.

Students negotiate with people in local businesses and their chosen community organisation. They develop plans and drawings, and draw up a proposal that would see the project proceed if funds were allocated. In their project proposal, the team identifies the steps they took, the budgeted costs and a time line to complete the project.

Judges mark proposals against set criteria. Students also identify the enterprise skills they have applied and the economic knowledge they have learned about the links between enterprise, employment, income and well-being. Regional winners receive the funding and students act as project managers to complete the project.
