The Numbers Tell the Story

Financial Literacy is a hot topic right now and you see lots of people speaking and writing about it. But what does Financial Literacy really mean for our society. Click here to see what Terry Shubkin, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise Trust, had to say in the May 2011 issue of the INFINZ Journal.

Bringing Financial Education to Pacific Island Schools

We know the strong linkages between the Pacific Islands and New Zealand and the impact that their economic prosperity can have on both New Zealand and the people in Aotearoa with family in the islands.  It’s been refreshing to see several Pacific Islands looking to inspire and educate their young people to be more enterprising and financially literate.  We are in the final stages of completing phase 1 of a Financial Education project, which is jointly managed by the Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme and the Fiji Ministry of Education.  Through the project, a national framework and curriculum material will be developed for the integration of Financial Education into existing subjects for classes 1 to 12 in Fiji.  This project is funded by the Australian Aid Programme in Fiji and shall conclude in December 2012.  It is envisaged that from 2013, on an annual basis 197,000 students in Fiji will have exposure to Financial Education. We’ve also been consulting with the Cook Islands on bringing both enterprise education and financial literacy into their schools.  These are exciting projects and ones that we are proud to be involved with.
